There’s not a single team in the latest edition of the AP poll top 25 college football rankings that has managed to find a way to beat Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders this season. And of the Big 12 teams that are ranked right now, Texas Tech has managed to find a way to secure a win over all three of them.

That’s an impressive feat to brag about (which is why we’re bragging about it), but it’s also certainly worth discussing the way in which Texas Tech has managed to beat those other ranked Big 12 teams. Because it wasn’t even remotely close in the way it unfolded in each of those games.

We’re talking about a handful of opponents that Texas Tech has outscored by a margin of 98 to 28. That’s a 70 point difference here! The Red Raiders have won those three games by an average of 23.3 points per game.

It’s not just that Texas Tech has some ranked wins, it’s that the Red Raiders have absolutely crushed the other Big 12 teams that are currently ranked in the AP Poll.

And that is also something to brag about.

AP poll top 25 college football rankings, Week 13: Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders have the best team in the Big 12 right now

Here are the Big 12 teams ranked in the week 13 edition of the AP Poll Top 25 (with Texas Tech clearly at the top of the conference right now):

  • No. 6 - Texas Tech Red Raiders (tied with the Oregon Ducks)
  • No. 11 - BYU Cougars
  • No. 13 - Utah Utes
  • No. 25 - Houston Cougars

What’s absolutely fascinating is that two of those wins for Texas Tech came as 34-point blowout wins on the road. Against the Utah Utes, the Red Raiders managed to win 34-10. Then, not long after that, the Red Raiders managed to get a 35-11 victory over the Houston Cougars in the Bayou City.

That’s quite a bit to be proud of.

It’s clear that this Texas Tech team isn’t perfect (as evidenced by the close road loss to the currently unranked and also very stressful and chaotic Arizona State Sun Devils), but still, when this Texas Tech team is winning, it’s winning in such fun and remarkable ways.
