There are so many metrics that happen to show just how dominant Texas Tech’s pitching staff can be. From ERA to strikeouts to home runs allowed and so on and so forth. But one of the best stats that demonstrates the Texas Tech pitching dominance is the fact that the Red Raiders can manage to just limit hits in a better way than that rest of the Big 12.
No other pitching staff in the conference has been able to successfully limit opposing hitters the way the Red Raiders have. So far this season, Texas Tech’s pitching staff has allowed its opponents to record a total of 126 hits.
Again, that’s the best mark in the Big 12. The next best? Well, that’d be the UCF Knights, who have given up 190 hits. The difference between the two being 64 hits. That feels significant. That gap is roughly equal to the gap between UCF and the Arizona State Sun Devils, who come in at 4th-worst in the Big 12.
Texas Tech’s pitching staff is the best in the Big 12 at limiting opposing hitters from actually getting hits
- Texas Tech Red Raiders - 126 hits allowed
- UCF Knights - 190 hits allowed
- Utah Utes - 203 hits allowed
- Oklahoma State Cowgirls - 220 hits allowed
- Kansas Jayhawks - 226 hits allowed
- Baylor Bears - 232 hits allowed
- Arizona Wildcats - 245 hits allowed
- Arizona State Sun Devils - 253 hits allowed
- Iowa State Cyclones - 259 hits allowed
- BYU Cougars - 263 hits allowed
- Houston Cougars - 332 hits allowed
Some interesting context that is fun to look at when you peel the numbers back a bit is that the Red Raiders are thriving here in large part because they have a complete pitching staff that is ready to compete at the highest level.
The trio of NiJaree Canady, Kaitlyn Terry, and Samantha Lincoln is incredibly dangerous for opposing batters. The three of them have been able to really limit damage from opponents and provided Texas Tech with opportunities to win. That shows up here in the stats.
