There isn’t another Big 12 lineup that is able to have success at the plate the way that Tim Tadlock’s Texas Tech Red Raiders are. So far, through 24 games, the Texas Tech baseball team has managed to rack up more hits than every other team in the Big 12 and that margin just seems to keep growing.

Up to this point in the season, Texas Tech has managed to rack up 308 hits. That’s good for nearly 13 hits per game, which is a lot of hits per game. The next closest team in the Big 12 would be the Cincinnati Bearcats at 294, but it took them 27 games to get there (that’s a little under 11 hits per game).

What Texas Tech is doing at the plate right now is just insane. The Red Raiders are producing more hits than anyone else in the conference and they’re doing it in fewer games played.

Texas Tech’s 308 hits lead the Big 12 by a large margin that just keeps growing

Here’s how things stand in the Big 12 in terms of teams being able to go get hits (with the Red Raiders leading the way):

  • Texas Tech Red Raiders - 308 hits in 24 games
  • Cincinnati Bearcats - 294 hits in 27 games
  • Arizona state Sun Devils - 275 hits in 24 games
  • Kansas State Wildcats - 263 hits in 25 games
  • BYU Cougars - 237 hits in 23 games
  • West Virignia Mountaineers - 232 hits in 21 games
  • Arizona Wildcats - 230 hits in 24 games
  • Oklahoma State Cowboys - 227 hits in 25 games
  • Houston Cougars - 226 hits in 24 games
  • Kansas Jayhawks - 224 hits in 24 games
  • UCF Knights - 221 hits in 23 games
  • Utah Utes - 214 hits in 22 games
  • Baylor Bears - 205 hits in 24 games
  • TCU Horned Frogs - 180 hits in 24 games

It’s fascinating to see just how good Texas Tech is at the plate. With the Red Raiders thriving and leading the Big 12 in both batting average and hits, it’s clear that things are working for Texas Tech on that side of things. The Red Raiders are clearly capable of taking advantage of seemingly just about everything thrown their way.
