The Texas Tech softball team happens to be pretty good at this going out and winning softball games sort of thing. The Red Raiders, all across the board, are really efficient at getting on base and aggressive baserunning and then getting across home plate to put runs on the board.

And while total bases gained doesn’t exactly showcase every single thing that the Red Raiders are good at, it does help show just how wide of a gap there is between this Texas Tech softball team and various other members of the Big 12 this season.

For those that don’t know, total bases combine singles, doubles, triples, and home runs and measures that as a collective. It helps showcase a team’s ability to get contact and then also power. Texas Tech is good at both. A .390 batting average and 113 home runs are evidence of that. As is this.

Texas Tech is sitting at nearly 1000 total bases so far this season and no other Big 12 team has managed to get close

  • Texas Tech Red Raiders - 972 total bases
  • Iowa State Cyclones - 768 total bases
  • Kansas Jayhawks - 767 total bases
  • Arizona State Sun Devils - 761 total bases
  • Arizona Wildcats - 692 total bases
  • UCF Knights - 668 total bases
  • Utah Utes - 668 total bases
  • Houston Cougars - 649 total bases
  • Oklahoma State Cowgirls - 625 total bases
  • BYU Cougars - 562 total bases
  • Baylor Bears - 541 total bases

This is another area where the Red Raiders have proven to be a bit of an anomaly in the Big 12. The Red Raiders have 204 more total bases than the next best Iowa State Cyclones.

Every little bit of data and context helps. And this one does help illustrate how effective the Red Raiders can be. It also helps show that there’s just nobody in the Big 12 that has proven it can keep up with Texas Tech’s pretty terrifying offense this season.
