Folks, I don’t know if we can say enough about how impressive of a job the entirety of the Texas Tech softball team is doing as we enter the last weekend of the 2026 regular season. There are so many metrics in which we get to see the Red Raiders sitting so far ahead of the rest of the Big 12.
And when you look at what Texas Tech is doing at the plate (and how often the Red Raiders cross home plate) relative to what the other 10 teams in the Big 12 are able to accomplish, it really shows that Texas Tech’s offense is operating on a completely different level from the rest of the conference.
Here’s how far ahead of the Big 12 the Red Raiders are when comparing Texas Tech to the rest of the conference
Let’s take a look at how things stack up for the Red Raiders and the rest of the conference going into this weekend:
- Texas Tech Red Raiders - 508 runs in 52 games
- Arizona State Sun Devils - 365 runs in 51 games
- Arizona Wildcats - 364 runs in 47 games
- Iowa State Cyclones - 345 runs in 51 games
- Kansas Jayhawks - 343 runs in 49 games
- UCF Knights - 327 runs in 51 games
- Utah Utes - 320 runs in 52 games
- Oklahoma State Cowgirls - 302 runs in 47 games
- Houston Cougars - 264 runs in 51 games
- Baylor Bears - 246 runs in 51 games
- BYU Cougars - 222 runs in 47 games
With just one series left to play for the Big 12, Texas Tech is averaging roughly 9.8 runs per game. When you look at the rest of the Big 12, that group is collectively averaging just over 6.2 runs per game. There is a significant gap between what the Red Raiders are capable of accomplishing in any given game and what the rest of the Big 12 is doing.
And for this weekend, Texas Tech gets to face a Baylor team that ranks 10th in the Big 12 here. The Bears have scored 246 runs so far this season. That’s less than half of what Texas Tech has scored this year.
