It is truly fascinating that the Big 12’s best-hitting team has an absolutely abysmal record in conference play right now. I mean, the Texas Tech baseball team is hitting .350 as a team and yet the Red Raiders are 20-19 overall and 6-12 in conference play.

Things clearly aren’t going well for the Texas Tech Red Raiders at the moment.

I mean, this team has a .350 batting average and is just above a .500 record on the season. That doesn’t feel great. Especially when you consider how Texas Tech is 26 points higher than the second place Arizona State Sun Devils at .324 and yet the Red Raiders still sit at No. 12 in a tie in the 14-team Big 12.

Again, there’s a significant gap between Texas Tech and Arizona State. It’s a larger gap than what you have between the Sun Devils and the Cincinnati Bearcats, who have the No. 6 batting average in the conference at .302.

No Big 12 team has a better batting average than the Texas Tech Red Raiders and it’s a shame because they can’t win games

Here’s what that looks like right now following Texas Tech’s sweep at the hands of the Utah Utes:

  • Texas Tech Red Raiders - .350 batting average
  • Arizona State Sun Devils - .324 batting average
  • Kansas State Wildcats - .316 batting average
  • Utah Utes - .310 batting average
  • West Virginia Mountaineers - .309 batting average
  • Cincinnati Bearcats - .302 batting average
  • Kansas Jayhawks - .287 batting average
  • BYU Cougars - .283 batting average
  • UCF Knights - .276 batting average
  • Oklahoma State Cowboys - .270 batting average
  • TCU Horned Frogs - .269 batting average
  • Baylor Bears - .267 batting average
  • Houston Cougars - .262 batting average
  • Arizona Wildcats - .256 batting average

Something that is truly important to remember is that the Arizona Wildcats and Houston Cougars are at the bottom of the Big 12 when it comes to winning games, right along with the Texas Tech Red Raiders and yet Texas Tech’s batting average is far and away better than what we’re seeing from either of those teams.

Texas Tech is proving that it can rack up hits without any sort of issue. But it’s got to consistently outscore folks. And so far, the Red Raiders can’t do that very well.
