It has been so much fun to watch the work that Mack Leftwich is doing in Lubbock. The way that he has elevated an already fantastic offense into something that seems borderline unstoppable in any given week has just been thoroughly fantastic and enjoyable.
It has been a blast to watch the veer-and-shoot get established with the talent that Texas Tech has available and I’m very grateful that he’s the offensive coordinator for the Red Raiders. Even from an objective standpoint, taking a step back and looking at what this offense is able to put together on a weekly basis, it’s just so much fun to watch.
And so it shouldn’t shock anyone that Texas Tech has put together the most productive offense in the Big 12 so far. It’s very visible in the stats when you break things down and look at the totals for all of the Big 12 football teams through seven weeks of football.
Texas Tech’s offense sits at the top of the Big 12 entering the Week 8 matchup with the Arizona State Sun Devils
Here’s what the top offenses in the Big 12 look like right now:
- Texas Tech Red Raiders - 558.2 yards per game
- Baylor Bears - 494 yards per game
- Utah Utes - 459.7 yards per game
- Cincinnati Bearcats - 449.7 yards per game
- BYU Cougars - 448.2 yards per game
- TCU Horned Frogs - 439 yards per game
- UCF Knights - 423 yards per game
- Arizona Wildcats - 422.2 yards per game
- Kansas Jayhawks - 418.3 yards per game
- Iowa State Cyclones - 406 yards per game
- Arizona State Sun Devils - 399.2 yards per game
- Houston Cougars - 378.3 yards per game
- West Virginia Mountaineers - 378.2 yards per game
- Kansas State Wildcats - 366.6 yards per game
- Colorado Buffaloes - 361.3 yards per game
- Oklahoma State Cowboys - 300.7 yards per game
The Red Raiders are such an anomaly in this conference, it is absolutely remarkable to see the sort of gap that exists between them and the rest of the Big 12. And while Baylor’s offense is also fantastic in its own right, it’s clear that Texas Tech’s offense is head and shoulders above even what the Bears have been able to accomplish this year.
Also, hey, look at the gulf that exists between Texas Tech and Arizona State right now. That difference is massive. 558.2 yards per game from the Red Raiders versus the 399.2 yards per game from the Sun Devils? That's astonishing and it will be so much fun to see how that plays out this weekend.
