Folks, have you ever seen Arkansas-Pine Bluff meet up with the Texas Tech Red Raiders? Because I haven’t. Not once. Not ever. It’s never happened. At least not on the gridiron that is. These teams just haven’t faced each other at any point ever prior to this season.

There are levels to the whole notion and concept of “I, for one, would like to see Joey McGuire and the Red Raiders make some history happen this season” and while this isn’t something I had on the list of history I want to see Texas Tech make this season, I’m not going to complain about it happening.

I mean, it goes without saying that this is going to be a win for Texas Tech. These FCS vs. FBS games very rarely end up being losses for the FBS host. And winning is just about always a pretty dang good thing.

But there are some other elements about this game that intrigue and excite me.

Texas Tech football to face off against Arkansas-Pine Bluff for the first time ever in 2025

I know this won’t be a true test of Texas Tech’s capabilities and potential, but I think we’ll start to get a little bit of insight into just what the Red Raiders’ offense will look like with Mack Leftwich as the architect. Leftwich was one of the most intriguing parts of the Texas State Bobcats’ exciting rebuild and his offense is almost certainly going to be a ton of fun to watch this season.

But, as has been mentioned plenty of times on other occasions, Leftwich isn’t the only new coordinator in Lubbock this season. We’re going to see Shiel Wood’s defense for the first time in this game and that’s going to be intriguing as well.

This matchup with Arkansas-Pine Bluff offers the Red Raiders a good, solid tune up to start the season. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Oh, and as for Arkansas-Pine Bluff? Well, they get a nice solid payday that helps keep the athletics department moving. That, my friends, is also a pretty important thing.
