It’s week 13 and Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech football team are currently the Big 12’s best hope at competing in the College Football Playoff. The Red Raiders, 10-1 overall and 7-1 against Big 12 teams this season, are in the driver’s seat when it comes to making the Big 12 championship game and also happen to be the highest ranked Big 12 team in the Week 13 College Football Playoff rankings.
I mean, Texas Tech really has control over the Big 12 right now and I, for one, would like to see that continue. The Red Raiders are currently the only Big 12 team in the top 10 of the College Football Playoff committee’s rankings.
It probably helps that Texas Tech beat three of the four other Big 12 teams in the top 25 rankings and those wins came by an average of 23.3 points. The lone loss that Texas Tech suffered was by a grand total of four points and it came at the hands of the last Big 12 team to get ranked in the CFP Top 25 this week.
College Football Playoff rankings, Week 13: Texas Tech is the only Big 12 team to make the CFP Top 10 this week
Here are the five Big 12 teams to get ranked by the College Football Playoff committee in the Week 13 edition of their Top 25 college football rankings:
- No. 5 Texas Tech Red Raiders (10-1 overall, 7-1 Big 12)
- No. 11 BYU Cougars (9-1 overall, 6-1 Big 12)
- No. 12 Utah Utes (8-2 overall, 5-2 Big 12)
- No. 23 Houston Cougars (8-2 overall, 5-2 Big 12)
- No. 25 Arizona State Sun Devils (7-3 overall, 5-2 Big 12)
Texas Tech has control over its own destiny right now. The Red Raiders don’t need help getting to the Big 12 championship game. And, well, should Texas Tech find a way to come out on top of that one, then the Red Raiders will make it into the College Football Playoff with relative ease.
