The 11 NCAA softball teams residing in the Big 12 are going to be a bit busy today. All 11 of them will be in action and several (including the Red Raiders) will have the delightful opportunity to play two games. It’s going to be eventful.

Non-conference play is still the focus. The college softball schedule features a few weekends of out of conference play. So all teams in the Big 12 are still just hanging out with 0-0 conference records right now. And to be completely honest, this leads to some really fun matchups early on in the season.

It also gives teams like the Texas Tech Red Raiders the opportunity to really build some impressive momentum heading into conference play.

As we get closer and closer to Big 12 play starting up, let’s take a look at where the Red Raiders and the rest of the Big 12 stand.

Big 12 softball standings, records: Texas Tech takes top spot as Red Raiders get set for facing two teams in loaded Saturday schedule

Ahead of Texas Tech’s busy Saturday with two games, here’s what the Big 12 standings and records look like (the Red Raiders are still at the top of the conference right now, which shouldn’t shock anyone).

  • Texas Tech Red Raiders -18-1 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • Arizona State Sun Devils- 16-3 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • UCF Knights - 18-4 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • Oklahoma State Cowgirls - 14-4 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • Arizona Wildcats - 15-5 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • Baylor Bears - 12-4 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • Utah Utes - 14-5 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • Houston Cougars - 12-5 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • Iowa State Cyclones - 11-5 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • Kansas Jayhawks - 12-6 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • BYU Cougars - 4-13 overall, 0-0 Big 12

As we’ve continued to see up to this point, there’s really only one truly bad team in the Big 12 right now. The BYU Cougars just aren’t fielding a great softball team this season. They’re dreadful. There’s a few teams that are a little underwhelming, but there’s really only one truly bad team in this conference.

Interestingly enough, there might be more than one really good team. I suspect that Texas Tech might be the only true national title contender (at least that’s what it looks like right now), but there are other interesting teams in this conference.

At 18-1 and with a 7-game winning streak, this Texas Tech softball season is off to a really solid start, but the Big 12 is also providing interesting teams in the likes of the Sun Devils, Knights, and Cowgirls. Heck, the Wildcats and Utes have also looked pretty solid at times.
