This weekend, NiJaree Canady and the Texas Tech Red Raiders will be welcoming the Baylor Bears to Lubbock for the final weekend of the regular season. Unfortunately for the Bayor softball team, the Bears drew the short straw and will get to face the Big 12 champs in the final series of the regular season.

To be frank, this is a series that could get very ugly in a hurry. Texas Tech, at 48-4 overall and 19-2 in Big 12 play, is riding a six-game winning streak entering this weekend. Baylor, meanwhile, at 27-23 overall and 9-12 against Big 12 teams, has lost three consecutive games.

This weekend is a complete and total mismatch on paper even though the Bears desperately need some wins this weekend to help keep their season alive.

Texas Tech softball set to welcome the Baylor Bears to Lubbock in a series that will likely be very lopsided

There’s so much about this matchup that lends itself to being great for Texas Tech and horrifying for the Bears. The Red Raiders lead the Big 12 in batting average (.390), home runs (113), runs scored (508), RBI (463), ERA (1.71), and shutouts (16). Meanwhile, the Bears have just a .282 batting average and a Big 12 worst 28 home runs on the season along with a team ERA of 4.22.

There’s not much that Texas Tech stands to gain from this weekend. The Red Raiders have already secured their Big 12 regular season championship. But if Texas Tech stumbles, the Red Raiders’ resume would get dinged a bit. A series sweep helps to avoid all of that.

Game 1 is set for the evening of Thursday, April 30 with the game starting at 6 p.m. Game 2 will be played on Friday, May 1 at 6 p.m. And then on Saturday, May 2, the Red Raiders will play their final game of the regular season starting at 1:30 p.m.
