As Kristia Gerlich and the Texas Tech Lady Raiders get set to play Sunday afternoon’s game, they’re getting set to face off against a team that the Lady Raiders really haven’t had much success against in recent matchups.

And to be fully honest, it’s worth keeping in mind things haven’t been all that impressive for the Texas Tech women’s basketball team in their most recent games this season. There’s so much that this Texas Tech team is capable of and this game bears a shocking amount of importance because of what it could represent.

Not only could this be a game that snaps a losing streak against the TCU Horned Frogs, but also this could provide the Lady Raiders with a Big 12 standings boost AND would get Texas Tech out of a funk where they’ve lost three of their last four games.

But again, Texas Tech hasn’t been able to beat the Horned Frogs since they met up on January 27, 2024. Since then, the Lady Raiders have lost all three matchups against TCU by scores of 73-52, 69-43, and 63-42.

That’s an average margin of defeat of 22.7 points. Which, you know. That’s not great. And again, it’s not great that the Lady Raiders lost to the Kansas State Wildcats by six points, the BYU Cougars by 12 points, and the Iowa State Cyclones by 14 points.

As Texas Tech gets set to face off against the Horned Frogs, it’s worth remembering that TCU is currently 20-2 overall and 8-1 in Big 12 play. They’re on a six-game winning streak in Big 12 play as they come into this game. They haven’t really struggled much against other Big 12 teams. And Texas Tech desperately needs this win to get things rolling in the right direction once more.
