There is an absolutely enormous gap between the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the next closest Big 12 team as we take a look at batting averages. Gerry Glasco and the Red Raiders have been able to assemble an absolutely absurd group of players who can hit incredibly well.

We’re talking about Texas Tech hitting with a .404 batting average as a team. That’s not just one great player who thrives at the plate, that’s an entire team that is incredibly dangerous for opposing pitchers to try to navigate around.

There is a 39 point gap between Texas Tech and the Arizona Wildcats, who are the second best team in the Big 12 when it comes to batting average. Between the Red Raiders and the BYU Cougars, who hold the worst batting average in the conference, there is a 144 point difference.

No Big 12 softball team is able to keep up with Gerry Glasco’s Texas Tech Red Raiders when it comes to their .404 batting average

Here’s what that looks like right now and how the Big 12 stacks up in batting average:

  • Texas Tech Red Raiders - .404 batting average
  • Arizona Wildcats - .365 batting average
  • Kansas Jayhawks - .363 batting average
  • UCF Knights - .328 batting average
  • Iowa State Cyclones - .322 batting average
  • Arizona State Sun Devils - .321 batting average
  • Utah Utes - .314 batting average
  • Oklahoma State Cowgirls - .307 batting average
  • Baylor Bears - .297 batting average
  • Houston Cougars - .284 batting average
  • BYU Cougars - .260 batting average

And just a reminder that this is a full team deal. Texas Tech has played 36 games and had nearly 900 at bats. And they’re still batting with a .404 batting average. As a group, this team is sustaining high volume production week in and week out. The Red Raiders are hitting so dang effectively and it should worry the rest of the Big 12.
