Well, one of the most impressive first half plays for the Red Raiders didn’t come from the incredible Texas Tech offense or that strong Texas Tech defense. Arguably the most impressive play from the first half plays came from Stone Harrington, Texas Tech’s kicker.
Texas Tech’s offense just kept running into issues and couldn’t sustain drives against Utah’s stifling defense. But, the Red Raiders did get within striking distance, getting to the Utah 40-yard line before the drive stalled out.
With 48 seconds left in the second quarter against the Utah Utes, Texas Tech found itself leading 7-0 and facing a 4th-and-11 sort of situation.
And Joey McGuire decided to trot Stone Harrington out onto the field for a lengthy field goal attempt.

Leading up to the field goal, the Red Raider kicker was getting a heaping of doubt launched his way from FOX College Football commentator Joel Klatt. And in Klatt’s defense, 58-yard field goals are incredibly difficult to hit.
Harrington didn’t care about that. He didn’t care about how difficult of a kick this was. Instead, Harrington just hit the field goal. No real issue.
And my favorite part of this is how Gus Johnson absolutely lets Klatt hear about it.

The Red Raiders ended the half holding on to a 10-3 lead after Utah got a field goal of their own. And it stinks that Texas Tech doesn’t have a two score lead over the Utes anymore, but it’s clear that every single point is going to be important as they’re all coming at a premium right now.
Both the Red Raiders and the Utes are playing some really impressive and dominant defense right now. There’s a good chance that Harrington might have to kick a few more field goals in the second half if this game continues in this way.
