After four games and a bye week, the Texas Tech offense is still one of the most impressive in the country (and arguably the best in the Big 12 up to this point). I mean, Joey McGuire did an incredible job by getting Mack Leftwich in as the Red Raiders offensive coordinator for this season because what Texas Tech is doing on offense is bizarre and impressive and hard to conceptualize.

From scoring to generating yards (and then also all of the fun tempo and explosive plays and scoring from far and the whole deal), this offense is fun. It’s really fun to watch and it also happens to be really successful.

I mean, we’re talking about the best in the Big 12 in a number of categories. Like total offensive yards per game. That’s a category that the Red Raiders are doing better than any other Big 12 team so far (and it’s by a rather significant margin).

The Red Raiders own the Big 12’s best offense when it comes to averaging total yards per game ahead of matchup vs. Houston

  • Texas Tech Red Raiders - 573 yards per game
  • Baylor Bears - 504.2 yards per game
  • Cincinnati Bearcats - 479.5 yards per game
  • Utah Utes - 469.2 yards per game
  • TCU Horned Frogs - 454.3 yards per game
  • Kansas Jayhawks - 450.6 yards per game
  • UCF Knights - 437.5 yards per game
  • BYU Cougars - 435.8 yards per game
  • Arizona State Sun Devils - 424.4 yards per game
  • Arizona Wildcats - 418 yards per game
  • West Virginia Mountaineers - 395.6 yards per game
  • Iowa State Cyclones - 386.2 yards per game
  • Houston Cougars - 379.5 yards per game
  • Colorado Buffaloes - 358.2 yards per game
  • Oklahoma State Cowboys - 355.3 yards per game
  • Kansas State Wildcats - 343.4 yards per game

That is a truly solid lead for the Red Raiders in this category. We’re talking about nearly 70 yards better than the No. 2 team, the Baylor Bears. That gap of 68.8 yards per game difference between the Red Raiders and Bears is larger than the gap between Baylor at No. 2 and UCF at No. 7.
