Gerry Glasco and the Texas Tech Red Raiders softball team are looking to build momentum and improve upon what was the most successful season in program history. And right now, it sure looks like the Red Raiders have the nation’s attention as well as the sort of potential to be able to go out and do exactly what Texas Tech is aiming to do this season.
As the Red Raiders enter the second season of the Glasco era of Texas Tech softball, they’re entering with some pretty high expectations and some really solid rankings. The Red Raiders are making headlines and leading the Big 12 as the conference’s top ranked team in the NFCA/GoRout Top 25 NCAA softball rankings.
The Red Raiders, the Arizona Wildcats, and the Oklahoma State Cowgirls were the three teams to represent the Big 12 in the NFCA/GoRout rankings.
College softball top 25 rankings: Texas Tech Red Raiders ranked No. 2 by NFCA/GoRout Top 25 NCAA softball poll
And here’s what the full college softball top 25 looks like in this particular set of rankings:
- Texas Longhorns
- Texas Tech Red Raiders
- Oklahoma Sooners
- Tennessee Lady Vols
- Oregon Ducks
- Florida Gators
- UCLA Bruins
- Florida State Seminoles
- Arkansas Razorbacks
- Nebraska Cornhuskers
- Texas A&M Aggies
- South Carolina Gamecocks
- Clemson Tigers
- Ole Miss Rebels
- Alabama Crimson Tide
- LSU Tigers
- Arizona Wildcats
- Stanford Cardinal
- Virginia Tech Hokies
- Georgia Bulldogs
- Liberty Flames
- Mississippi State Bulldogs
- Duke Blue Devils
- Oklahoma State Cowgirls
- Ohio State Buckeyes
After the Oklahoma Sooners have had essentially full control over this sport in such a dominant way through the past few seasons, it’s fascinating (and admittedly a little refreshing) to see the Sooners sitting at No. 3 here (even if it isn’t great that the Longhorns are coming in at No. 1).
There’s also a ton of SEC teams all over the place here. Three of the top five, five of the top 10, nine of the top 15, and 12 of the top 25. That’s crazy.
So, while it’s great that the Big 12 has three teams in the top 25 here, it’s clear that the Red Raiders have a relatively manageable path to getting back to the NCAA softball tournament once again this season. Things could certainly be much more difficult.
