Joey McGuire, Mack Leftwich, and the Texas Tech Red Raiders should be pretty thrilled with the way the offense looks for the folks out in Lubbock so far this season. We're essentially halfway through the 2025 Texas Tech football season and the Red Raiders have consistently had the best offense in the conference up to this point.

Texas Tech, right now, has the best scoring offense in the Big 12 and there's a pretty noteworthy gap between the Red Raiders and the Utah Utes, who have the second-best scoring offense in the Big 12. As Texas Tech is scoring an average of 47.5 points per game to lead the way, Utah is scoring an average of 39.5 points per game.

I guess that 34-10 win for Texas Tech over the Utes might have something to do with that.

It's worth noting that the Red Raiders have scored 35 touchdowns so far this season, which leads the Big 12. That's three more than what Utah has done this season.

And it's absolutely also worth point out that as Texas Tech is preparing to meet up with Kenny Dillingham and the Arizona State Sun Devils, the Red Raiders are averaging over 21 points per game more than what Arizona State is averaging so far this season.

Big 12 stats: Texas Tech Red Raiders lead the Big 12 in scoring offense heading into their Week 8 matchup with Arizona State

Here’s how the Big 12 looks from a stats perspective (all centered around scoring offense) ahead of the Red Raiders’ matchup with the Arizona State Sun Devils:

  • Texas Tech Red Raiders - 47.5 points per game
  • Utah Utes - 39.5 points per game
  • BYU Cougars - 37.5 points per game
  • Baylor Bears - 36.3 points per game
  • Cincinnati Bearcats - 36 points per game
  • TCU Horned Frogs - 35.3 points per game
  • Kansas Jayhawks - 32.4 points per game
  • Arizona Wildcats - 32.2 points per game
  • Kansas State Wildcats - 29.4 points per game
  • Iowa State Cyclones - 29.3 points per game
  • Houston Cougars - 29.2 points per game
  • UCF Knights - 28.3 points per game
  • Arizona State Sun Devils - 26 points per game
  • Colorado Buffaloes - 24.9 points per game
  • West Virginia Mountaineers - 22.3 points per game
  • Oklahoma State Cowboys - 16.5 points per game

That list does a pretty good job of showing just how good of a job that Texas Tech offensive coordinator Mack Leftwich has been doing this season. Things haven't been perfect on offense throughout the year, the Red Raiders haven't scored enough touchdowns in the red zone in Big 12 play in my opinion.

But still, the gulf that exists in points per game scored by Texas Tech and what we're seeing from the bottom of the conference over in Stillwater with what Oklahoma State is doing is just astonishing in so many ways.
