Right now, there’s nobody in the Big 12 that is better at limiting a team’s batting average than the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Just flat out, there’s no other college softball team in the 11-team Big 12 that happens to be better at stymieing opposing batters. Gerry Glasco’s Texas Tech softball team leads the way and it’s by a noteworthy margin.

After Texas tech just completed its dominant, lopsided, 3-game sweep of the Iowa State Cyclones, opponents are currently hitting just .172 on the season against the Red Raiders’ pitching staff so far this season.

That’s lower than the second-lowest opposing batting average by 40 points when compared against the UCF Knights. Texas Tech truly is the absolute best in the Big 12 right now when it comes to suppressing contact and getting set for success.

Here’s how things look in the Big 12 for the pitching staffs across the country as it pertains to their ability to limit contact from other teams. The Red Raiders are far and away the best in the Big 12 and it’s not really all that close.

  • Texas Tech Red Raiders - .172 opposing batting average
  • UCF Knights - .212 opposing batting average
  • Utah Utes - .231 opposing batting average
  • Oklahoma State Cowgirls - .249 opposing batting average
  • Kansas Jayhawks - .258 opposing batting average
  • Arizona State Sun Devils - .266 opposing batting average
  • Baylor Bears - .273 opposing batting average
  • Arizona Wildcats - .294 opposing batting average
  • Iowa State Cyclones - .305 opposing batting average
  • BYU Cougars - .325 opposing batting average
  • Houston Cougars - .325 opposing batting average

There’s a lot of effort there that goes into making that sort of opposing batting average just like that. And it’s clear that the Texas Tech Red Raiders, loaded with talent, are still putting forth some impressive efforts and have shown that they are the best in the conference by far.
