It looks like Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders are making a pretty significant splash yet again. The Texas Tech football team is looking pretty flush with talent (even without a certain semi-controversial quarterback on the Red Raiders’ roster ahead of the 2026-2027 football season).
The folks over at Dave Campbell’s Texas Football seem to agree and it looks like they believe the Red Raiders have some of the best players in the state of Texas. That includes the best running back in the Lone Star State and also the best linebacker in Texas.
Shout out to Cameron Dickey and Ben Roberts for leading the state in those two categories respectively.
Texas Tech leads all Texas FBS programs with 12 All-Texas picks for 2026 according to Dave Campbell's Texas Football
But Dickey and Roberts aren’t the only Red Raiders getting recognized. In fact, a dozen Texas Tech football players were recognized by Dave Campbell's Texas Football for their All-Texas teams.
That’s more than any other FBS team in the state of Texas. That’s not just a fact about how Texas Tech is getting honored. It’s how Texas Tech has more selections than the Texas Longhorns (with 11) and the Texas A&M Aggies (with eight).
Here’s what that looks like for the Red Raiders:
- Cameron Dickey - All-Texas First Team Offense (RB)
- Terrance Carter Jr. - All-Texas First Team Offense (TE)
- Howard Sampson - All-Texas First Team Offense (OL)
- J'Koby Williams - All-Texas First Team Offense (UTL)
- A.J. Holmes Jr. - All-Texas First Team Defense (DT)
- Trey White - All-Texas First Team Defense (DE)
- Ben Roberts - All-Texas First Team Defense (LB)
- Brice Pollock - All-Texas First Team Defense (CB)
- Jacob Ponton - All-Texas Second Team Offense (OL)
- Adam Trick - All-Texas Second Team Defense (DE)
- Austin Romaine - All-Texas Second Team Defense (LB)
- John Curry - All-Texas Second Team Defense (NB)
That sort of note on how good Texas Tech’s roster could be for the coming season is very, very important to keep up with. For some reason, it seems like people may have forgotten that Brendan Sorsby wasn’t the only highly talented player to reside in Lubbock for the coming season.
This Texas Tech football team is still assembled to cause headaches for the remainder of the Big 12. And if Will Hammond continues to recover and can get healthy, there’s a very good chance that Texas Tech causes some very real problems for other high profile teams down the stretch of the season.
Just because the Red Raiders had an eligibility issue with their expected starting quarterback this offseason doesn’t mean that this season can’t still be something great.
