The transfer portal gives and the transfer portal takes away. It looks like Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders are set to lose a redshirt sophomore linebacker to the transfer portal as Justin Horne has made it clear that he intends to continue his career somewhere other than Texas Tech.

It’s a bummer, but Horne’s statement on social media announcing his desire to move on from the Texas Tech football program is respectful and shows plenty of grace and appreciation. It’s hard to get upset about the way this one is being handled.

In his transfer portal announcement, Horne shared his appreciation of Texas Tech, his teammates in Lubbock, the coaches who have helped him over the past few seasons, and the fans who have supported him while he’s been a Red Raider.

Texas Tech linebacker Justin Horne is apparently interested in hitting the transfer portal and leaving the Red Raiders and Lubbock

Here’s what Horne had to say:

A redshirt sophomore, Horne has been a member of the Texas Tech football program for a few years now. The 225 pound redshirt linebacker is originally from New Orleans, Louisiana and he committed to join the Red Raiders back in December 2022.

Before he was committed to play in Lubbock, Horne had chosen to stay closer to home and play for the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns. That said, according to his recruiting timeline on 247 Sports, Horne originally received an offer to play for the Red Raiders in May 2022.

It will be interesting to see where Horne ends up landing. Out of high school, Texas Tech was able to beat out the aforementioned Ragin’ Cajuns, the Baylor Bears, Vanderbilt Commodores, Troy Trojans, Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, Tulane Green Wave, and UTSA Road Runners.

That said, a lot has changed and a lot of coaches have moved on from being at those jobs to coaching at other institutions.
