A lot is happening for Texas Tech basketball fans this week. The Red Raiders are getting to keep up with some national, marquee headline sort of news as well as some fundamental changes to keep up with as some program building action happens in Lubbock.

First, Christian Anderson is heading off to Charlotte, North Carolina and that’s something that has plenty of people paying attention (including folks outside of Lubbock).

Christian Anderson becomes Texas Tech’s 4th ever 1st-round NBA Draft pick

The Charlotte Hornets picked the Texas Tech star up in the first round of the 2026 NBA Draft. And that’s huge. Anderson is an elite prospect who has performed at a very high level for Grant McCasland and the Red Raiders. He’s also young.

The sophomore from Atlanta, Georgia became just the fourth ever first-round draft pick for the Texas Tech men’s basketball program. Oh, and he’s the 26th Red Raider to get picked in the NBA Draft.

Across two seasons, Anderson managed to average 18.5 points per game and dished out 7.4 assists per game during his sophomore season for Texas Tech.

Now he’s got a chance to show his potential on basketball’s biggest stage and compete on a team that is seemingly looking to find some sort of spark. The Hornets were left out of the playoffs (again, it’s been since the 2015-2016 season since we’ve seen Charlotte in the playoffs) and they need something to go their direction.

Some changes are being made with the Texas Tech women’s basketball staff

A grand total of SIX new hires were made for the Texas Tech Lady Raiders. A half-dozen. That’s a lot of new folks to have around a program that is on the rise and managed to win 26 games this past season.

Here’s the folks that Texas Tech announced it was adding to the Lady Raiders’ coaching staff:

  • Jackson Davis (video coordinator)
  • Ryan McMinn (assistant coach)
  • Isaiah Fernandez (assistant coach)
  • Kaden Cleavinger (assistant coach)
  • Hazuki Inamine (assistant coach)
  • Shantavia Dawkins (assistant coach)

That’s quite a few new faces.

This sort of stuff is great. It’s the perfect sort of offseason look for Texas Tech basketball fans who want to see what the Lady Raiders are working on (while not giving too much away in the offseason).

I’m a fan of being able to get a bit of transparency that helps to show the sort of momentum that any Texas Tech team has right now. And there’s certainly plenty to be proud of as the Lady Raiders work to build on all they accomplished in 2026.
