It was a busy weekend in Texas Tech athletics so here's a look at some of the biggest stories from the past few days.

Texas Tech golf alum Ludvig Aberg wins on the PGA Tour

It has felt like only a matter of time until former Texas Tech golfer Ludvig Aberg became a star on the PGA Tour. This weekend, he may have had his breakout moment by winning the Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines in San Diego, California.

Aberg birdied six of the final seven holes to shoot a final-round 66 and claim a one-stroke win. He sealed the victory with a 7-foot birdie put on No. 18 to earn his first PGA Tour win in America and his second tournament title on the tour.

Shooting a 12-under 276 for the four rounds, Aberg earned $4 million with the win. That brings his career earnings on the tour to over $17 million since he turned pro in the summer of 2023.

The win was made all the more impressive because the No. 1 player in the world, Scottie Scheffler, was in the field. He shot a 66 on Sunday to finish in a tie for third place. Meanwhile, Maverick McNealy was the runner-up after shooting a final-round 64.

Texas Tech softball has up-and-down weekend in Austin

Participating in the Bevo Classic in Austin, the Texas Tech softball team went 3-2 this weekend. The Red Raiders picked up a pair of wins over UMASS and one over Maryland. That included a perfect game tossed by freshman pitcher Samantha Lincoln on Saturday.

In the 3-0 win over UMASS, Lincoln stuck out nine hitters to register the fifth perfect game in program history. However, not everything came up roses for Tech in Austin.

Having two cracks to take down No. 1 Texas on their own field, the Red Raiders couldn't get it done. Friday, the Red Raiders fell to the Longhorns 2-1 in a game that went nine innings. Star pitcher NiJaree Canady pitched all nine innings striking out 11 and giving up just one earned run.

Sunday was a different story, though as the Horns run-ruled the Red Raiders 11-0 in five innings. However, that outcome was a bit skewed given the fact that Canady didn't pitch in the game. Tech returns to action Tuesday in Denton, Texas against UNT.

Texas Tech baseball swept by No. 6 North Carolina

After three games, the Texas Tech baseball team is still searching for its first win of the season. The Red Raiders were swept by No. 6 North Carolina in Chapel Hill to begin the season.

The Red Raiders dropped the opener 5-1, lost game two 8-3, and fell 4-2 in game three. The first two games were a double-header on Friday with game three being played on Saturday to avoid inclement weather that was forecasted for Sunday in North Carolina.

The Red Raiders will open their home schedule on Friday with a three-game set against a tough UC Irvine team. Game one begins at 6 p.m. Central with game two on Saturday at 2 p.m. and game three Sunday at 1 p.m.

Texas Tech Lady Raiders come up just short against Baylor

The Lady Raiders fought valiantly but came up short against No. 25 Baylor on Saturday. In the 66-60 loss in Lubbock, Bailey Maupin led the team with 15 points but it wasn't enough as Tech was outscored by five points in the second half after trailing by one point at the break.

Tech drops to 14-13 on the season and 3-11 in Big 12 play. Head coach Krist Gerlich's team has now dropped six games in a row as it heads into a home game with Cincinnati on Wednesday.

"I thought we were still competing," Gerlich said. "I mean, our defense was just as good. They didn't produce as much offense either. So, I thought it was a great battle. You know, we just missed opportunities. I mean, we have to make free throws. We had some great looks from the 3-point line that we needed to knock down. I thought we had really good ball security in the second half. So, we were getting the looks that we wanted. We just weren't ready."
