One of the most intriguing elements of the modern college football landscape is that conferences are no longer regionally based the way they once were. Or, well, they’re not as regionally based. Take the Big 12 for example. There are teams all over the map. Which means that there are teams traversing time zones and competing in different types of climates.

That’s the case for the Texas Tech Red Raiders this weekend as they travel across the country to go compete in Morgantown, West Virginia.

As Texas Tech gets to compete against the Mountaineers, will the West Virginia fall weather impact how the Red Raiders’ offense operates? Well, Texas Tech offensive coordinator Mack Leftwich was asked just that at a recent press conference.

During the press conference, Leftwich noted that there’s no real reason for the Red Raiders to drastically alter the way they operate on offense for this particular game unless the weather gets extremely weird or weirdly extreme.

“I think if you’re in like the extremes, like it’s really raining or it’s you know, really snowing hard or something like that, or you know, super heavy winds, maybe it’d change you,” Leftwich noted. “But if you’re just kind of a normal, maybe gloomy day, not necessarily much will change probably.”

And that’s fair and also for good reason! The Red Raiders are thriving on offense and there’s not much that should change unless it absolutely has to.

“We kind of have a pretty good formula right now, winning football, trying to establish the run and protect the football, and we’ll continue to do that,” Leftwich continued.

Which makes sense. Don’t change unless you absolutely have to. And this is coming from a guy who does happen to be pretty familiar with what the weather up in that part of the world can look like.

“Actually, you know, I played my last two years of high school up in Pittsburgh, so I know a little bit about the weather up there,” Leftwich explained.
