One thing the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Oregon Ducks certainly have in common this season is the way they’ve had to navigate various different injuries to their respective offenses that have actually impacted the way they’ve wanted to operate.

While the Ducks have been dealing with various different skill position injuries throughout the season and they’ve been able to avoid having to cycle through quarterbacks the way the Red Raiders have, the injury bug is unfortunately something that Oregon and Texas Tech are both familiar with right now.

Which is why that little bit of rest before the opening round matchup between Oregon and the James Madison Dukes was so pivotal for the Ducks on offense. And it’s why the rest the Red Raiders had prior to the Orange Bowl has been such a big deal for the Texas Tech football team.

Because for TTU, Red Raider quarterback Behren Morton was able to continue to heal up after dealing with nagging injuries all throughout the season. And that’s huge.

Texas Tech offensive coordinator Mack Leftwich shares huge injury update on Red Raider quarterback Behren Morton

“I think it was huge to get a little extra time off,” Mack Leftwich explained during a press conference. “I would agree with that sentiment, I think he’s moving around the best he has.”

Morton has dealt with a variety of injuries throughout much of his career and this season has been no different. And still, he’s been a very productive quarterback in Leftwich’s system, even with being hurt in a few games and having to sit out of a couple of games.

Morton has completed 67 percent of his passes this season (a career high) for 2643 yards and 22 touchdowns all while throwing just four interceptions. He’s been really efficient and effective this year even with the injury issues.

And if he’s rested up a bit? Well, that’s good news.

“He’s able to do everything at practice with no limitations, so he’s feeling good,” Leftwich continued. “It was good to get a little extra rest and kind of heal that leg up. I know he’ll be ready to go when we get down to Miami.”
