Man, this season is off to such a fun start for the Texas Tech football team. There’s no way Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raider coaching staff isn’t thrilled to get yet another win where the offense scored over 60 points while the defense completely shut down TTU’s opponent until late in the game.
Two weeks in a row, two games where the Red Raiders offense has managed to absolutely demolish its opponent.
I mean, it would not have been overly difficult for Mack Leftwich and the Red Raider offense to have gone out and put up 100 points in this game. Texas Tech chose not to do that. And that’s an incredible thing. Because the Red Raiders were up 48-0 at the half. They certainly could have kept scoring.
And Shiel Wood’s defense! I know the man has commented that he doesn’t want folks to focus on stats and such, but Kent State, as a team, had a grand total of 229 yards of offense. The Golden Flashes had just 10 first downs in this game. That’s really solid work from the Texas Tech defense.
Texas Tech was unstoppable as the Red Raiders absolutely crushed Kent State in week 2
And it’s so interesting that Texas Tech was able to outscore the Golden Flashes by 48 points because these two teams had nearly identical times of possession. The Red Raiders had the ball for 30:03 while Kent State had the ball for 29:57.
Of course, the Red Raiders had multiple touchdown passes of 35 or more yards, so when you score quickly like that, and you do it on a fairly regular basis, then your time of possession is going to not be as high as some might expect it to be.
Texas Tech is now 2-0 on the season. The Red Raiders are off to a hot start. They’ve scored 129 points so far this year. In just two games! This season has the potential to be a lot of fun. Truly. This could be something special.
