With everything that Texas Tech excels at at the plate, one of the most impressive things the Red Raiders are capable of is just simply avoiding getting out in unnecessary ways. The Red Raiders, in 52 games, have managed to put the ball in play better than anyone else in the Big 12 and the stats prove that.Â
Up to this point in the season, the Texas Tech softball team has struck out a grand total of 123 times. In 52 games. That’s an average of roughly 2.4 strikeouts per game. Across the entire lineup. That’s remarkable stuff that nobody else in the conference is able to come close to.Â
Texas Tech has the fewest strikeouts by a sizable margin as the Red Raiders have struck out 30 fewer times than the next best team, the Arizona Wildcats.
Texas Tech strikes out less than the rest of the Big 12 and that’s another reason why the Red Raiders are so effective at the plate
- Texas Tech Red Raiders - 123 strikeouts in 52 games
- Arizona Wildcats - 153 strikeouts in 47 games
- Baylor Bears - 155 strikeouts in 51 games
- UCF Knights - 167 strikeouts in 51 games
- Arizona State Sun Devils - 167 strikeouts in 51 games
- Kansas Jayhawks - 173 strikeouts in 49 games
- Utah Utes - 173 strikeouts in 52 games
- BYU Cougars - 200 strikeouts in 47 games
- Oklahoma State Cowgirls - 200 strikeouts in 47 games
- Iowa State Cyclones - 201 strikeouts in 51 games
- Houston Cougars - 231 strikeouts in 51 games
Across the entirety of the lineup, the Texas Tech Red Raiders are loaded with experienced hitters who have seen quite a bit of softball. There’s not many weak points on this roster and pitchers really can’t challenge the Red Raiders in many ways the way they might with other teams.
It’s interesting. The Baylor Bears rank third in the conference with a total of 155 strikeouts. That’s a bright spot that they should celebrate and enjoy. While Baylor may not hit for power, they’re able to get the ball in play and this is an area where the gap between Tech and the Bears isn’t overwhelmingly massive.
