Joey McGuire and the No. 21 Texas Tech Red (3-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12) are officially halfway to bowl eligibility. Which, you know, that’s not the goal this season. The goal for the 2025 Texas Tech football season is to go a lot farther than just getting six wins. Texas Tech is looking to have a truly great season. And so far, they’re on the right path to doing just that.

Once again, the Texas Tech football team handled their opponent with ease. Once again, we got to see Texas Tech’s offense explode on a routine basis while the defense stifled the opposing offense until late in the game.

This week, that was against the Oregon State Beavers (0-3 overall, 0-0 Pac 12). The Red Raiders had no issue jumping out to a monumental, and insurmountable, lead early on in this game against Oregon State. I mean, we’re talking about a game where the score was 28-0 at halftime.

No. 21 Texas Tech had no issue handling Oregon State in the Red Raiders’ third win of the season

Behren Morton played incredibly well. He managed to complete 23 of his 35 pass attempts for 442 yards (which averages out to an impressive 12.6 passing yards per attempt), four touchdowns (not bad at all), and his first pick of the season.

The Red Raiders really had an impressive passing attack going on. Truly, it was something special. Multiple Texas Tech wide receivers receptions of at least 20 yards. That includes Coy Eakin (who had a 38-yard reception), J’Koby Williams (39 yards), Terrance Carter Jr. (24 yards), Caleb Douglas (61 yards), Reggie Virgil (21 yards).

Eakin and Williams each had over 100 yards receiving as they had 139 and 116 respectively.

On the defensive side of things, Shiel Wood is probably going to be pretty proud of how the Red Raiders were able to cause problems for Oregon State’s offense. Maalik Murphy completed just 23 of his 42 attempts for 251 passing yards, one touchdown, and a pick. As a group, Texas Tech’s defense was able to get a couple of sacks and had a total of five tackles for loss in this game.

Following this 45-14 win, McGuire and the Red Raiders now have a big week ahead of them. Texas Tech has steadily increased the difficulty of competition from week 1 to now. But things get much tougher for the Red Raiders this week. Salt Lake City and the Utah Utes are up ahead on the schedule.
