Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders should be thrilled with how this season is going so far. The Red Raiders, at 10-1 overall and 7-1 against Big 12 teams, lead the conference championship race and are in line for a spot in the upcoming College Football Playoff.
The Red Raiders boast the best scoring offense in the Big 12 (with 42.6 points per game) and the best total defense in the conference (allowing just 266 yards per game). This is a well-rounded, incredibly successful team that thrives at just about everything it attempts to do. There’s been a few injury issues, but the Red Raiders are still rolling right now.
And that’s putting McGuire and Texas Tech in perfect position to make a splash in the postseason. Right now, it’s looking like the folks over at ESPN have Texas Tech making it into the College Football Playoff in their projections following Week 13.
Let’s go over where Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach have the Red Raiders going in the College Football Playoff this week.
Both of ESPN’s College Football Playoff projections have the Texas Tech Red Raiders earning the No. 5 seed
It’s important to note that both ESPN experts making these College Football Playoff projections have the Red Raiders making it into the 12-team field as the No. 5 seed.
In that opening round of the CFP, Bonagura has the Texas Tech football team as the No. 5 seed and set to host the North Texas Mean Green in Lubbock. Meanwhile, Schlabach has the Tulane Green Wave taking on Texas Tech.
From there, both Bonagura and Schlabach have the Red Raiders moving on to the Orange Bowl in a matchup with the Georgia Bulldogs down in Miami. This is the point where things split for the projections moving forward.
At this point, Shlabach doesn’t have the Red Raiders moving on. Bonagura does and puts Texas Tech in a Fiesta Bowl matchup with the Ohio State Buckeyes, but that’s as far as the ESPN CFB analyst believes the Red Raiders will go.
