Look, things aren’t ideal for the Texas Tech pitching staff. The Red Raiders have some issues on the mound. That’s just a fact. Right now, as an entire unit, Texas Tech’s pitching staff has a 6.49 ERA. Which is really, really dreadful and bad and stuff. I mean, it’s the second worst in the Big 12.
But you know what, that doesn’t matter. Not right now, at least. Even with one of the worst pitching staffs in the conference, Texas Tech was able to go on the road to Tucson, Arizona and secure a solid series win against the Wildcats.
I’ll take that. I mean, it’s not what I’d prefer to see from the Red Raiders, but wins are wins and right now Texas Tech certainly just needs to get a win however it possibly can.
Texas Tech’s pitching staff has all sorts of issues but the Red Raiders just secured another Big 12 series win
Texas Tech was able to get the series started with a 9-5 win over Arizona as the Red Raiders managed to beat the Wildcats thanks in large part to the way Jesse Rusinek went 4-for-5 with a double and an RBI and Villeneuve going 3-for-3 with a couple of walks and three runs scored.
On Saturday, things got out of hand. We really don’t have to talk too much about it. The Red Raiders really didn’t have much going in the way of offense and the pitching staff struggled mightily. Thus, you know, a 14-6 loss to a bad Arizona team.
Far from ideal.
But things turned around on Sunday as Texas Tech was able to get a close and anxiety-inducing 12-10 win over Arizona to secure the series for the Red Raiders. With the series win, Texas Tech is now 15-8 overall and 4-2 in Big 12 play.
Which, you know, given the pitching issues that are present at the moment, that’s not that bad.
The Red Raiders are currently tied for third in the Big 12 standings, sitting alongside the likes of the Arizona State Sun Devils and the Kansas Jayhawks (and behind the West Virginia Mountaineers and the UCF Knights).
