Well, it looks like the Texas Tech Red Raiders don’t just have an explosive or productive offense. Texas Tech offensive coordinator Mack Leftwich is implementing a system that also allows for its quarterback to be efficient and effective!

And that’s fun too.

It truly is encouraging to see what the Red Raiders are capable of on offense and also to see that things are happening without Texas Tech self-inflicting too many wounds. It’s not like things are perfect for the Red Raiders on offense, but they’re certainly pretty dang good.

As evidenced by the fact that Texas Tech starting quarterback Behren Morton is completing 69 percent of his passes through four games under Leftwich’s guidance. And so far, that is good for No. 3 among Big 12 quarterbacks in pass completion percentage.

Texas Tech’s Behren Morton sits at No. 3 among Big 12 quarterbacks in pass completion percentage prior to matchup with Houston

Here are the top, most precise quarterbacks in the Big 12 though five weeks of play:

  • Devon Dampier, Utah Utes - 72.5 percent
  • Brendan Sorsby, Cincinnati Bearcats - 69.2 percent
  • Behren Morton, Texas Tech Red Raiders - 69 percent
  • Bear Bachmeier, BYU Cougars - 67.8 percent
  • Nicco Marchiol, West Virginia Mountaineers - 67.3 percent
  • Kaidon Salter, Colorado Buffaloes - 67 percent
  • Jalon Daniels, Kansas Jayhawks - 66.9 percent
  • Josh Hoover, TCU Horned Frogs - 66.7 percent
  • Rocco Becht, Iowa State Cyclones - 65.8 percent
  • Tayven Jackson, UCF Knights - 65.3 percent

That’s pretty good company for Morton to be in. Again, it’s clear that he hasn’t played perfectly this season, but he’s doing pretty well for himself and has thrived in this offense when he’s been given time in the pocket and has been fully healthy.

It’ll be fun to see how Morton plays this weekend when the Red Raiders go to Houston to take on the Cougars and their defense.
