While Gerry Glasco’s Texas Tech Red Raiders are so incredibly dominant and they’re thriving, the Texas Tech softball team isn’t exactly perfect. To be completely clear, the Red Raiders have some room for growth of development in a few different ways.

And that’s not a bad thing! Not at all.

The fact that the Red Raiders and Texas Tech’s coaching staff can work to identify and then carve out a few things to improve upon shows that the Red Raiders can continue to improve and grow.

Right now, when you look at the stat sheet and see Texas Tech at the top of the conference in many different areas. And yet, Texas Tech currently ranks at No. 4 in the Big 12 when it comes to home runs allowed on the season.

Home runs allowed is one of the few stats where Texas Tech doesn’t have complete control over in the Big 12

It’s a rare bit of vulnerability. It’s a rare weakness. And still, Texas Tech just looks a little vulnerable. It’s not a major issue for the Red Raiders. Not at all.

  • Utah Utes - 18 home runs allowed
  • UCF Knights - 19 home runs allowed
  • Baylor Bears - 19 home runs allowed
  • Texas Tech Red Raiders - 20 home runs allowed
  • Iowa State Cyclones - 24 home runs allowed
  • Oklahoma State Cowgirls - 27 home runs allowed
  • Kansas Jayhawks - 27 home runs allowed
  • Arizona State Sun Devils - 30 home runs allowed
  • BYU Cougars - 38 home runs allowed
  • Arizona Wildcats - 40 home runs allowed
  • Houston Cougars - 72 home runs allowed.

You want to know who has a vulnerability in this area? The Houston Cougars. They’re dreadful. Among the worst in the Big 12 by such a wide margin. It’s just not even remotely close. Only four teams in the conference have given up 30 or more home runs on the season.

And then there’s the Cougars, who just seem willing to give you exactly what you need to be able to get a hat without much of an issue.
