To say that Texas Tech football fans are excited about seeing the country's top high school recruit, Jalen Brewster, in action is an understatement. However, the 2027 Red Raider commit has had his senior season debut delayed after transferring from Cedar Hill High School in Texas to Buford High School in Georgia.
Fortunately, he is set to return to action this week after being cleared to play for his new school. That means Red Raiders across the nation will be checking in for stats and highlights of the most high-profile player the program has ever landed.
A 5-star-plus recruit, the 6-foot-3, 302-pound defensive tackle is the highest-ranked recruit in Tech history. And late last month, he shut down his recruitment after reaffirming his intention to call Lubbock home for his college career.
Tech had to fend off the bluest of the blue bloods to win this recruiting battle. Such programs as LSU, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, Oklahoma, Texas, Notre Dame, and Southern California were among Brewster's suitors.

Therefore, it surprised many when he committed to Texas Tech last fall. This summer, as his situation at Cedar Hill went south, he flirted with the idea of trying to graduate early enough to join the Red Raiders for this season, but that didn't pan out.
Still, he needed to transfer schools in order to be able to graduate in time to join the Red Raiders in the spring of 2027. Therefore, he found a home at Buford, a program that won the 2025 high school National Championship.
Interestingly, Texas Tech has had some recent success when it comes to landing players from Georgia. Though Brewster is really a Texan who is just passing through Georgia, Tech did add two players from Savannah, Georgia, in the 2026 class: 5-star defensive end LaDamion Guyton and his teammate, 3-star quarterback Stephen Cannon.
Now, Guyton will put the finishing touches on his high school career in Georgia. There, he will play for a program that faces stiff competition, meaning he will be tested as much as he can be at that level of the game.
By this time next year, Texas Tech fans will get to see him in scarlet and black back in his home state. Until then, though, we'll be on the lookout for weekly highlights of Brewster wrecking shop in the Deep South.
