Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders handled business once again. While Texas Tech was once again challenged and had to navigate an injury to its starting quarterback in a game against a tough Big 12 opponent, the Red Raiders managed to still walk away with a lopsided and incredibly dominant win following a second half surge.
This is a game where Texas Tech claimed an 18-0 lead in the first quarter, and then extended that lead out to 21-0, then entered halftime at 21-17.
And while the Red Raiders managed to lose some momentum in the middle of the game with their lead getting trimmed in considerable fashion, Texas Tech still bounced back well en route to a lopsided 42-17 win at Jones AT&T Stadium.
Texas Tech claims dominant win over Kansas Jayhawks as the Red Raiders focused on running the ball with Behren Morton hurt
It really is impressive the way Mack Leftwich and the Texas Tech offense was able to pivot on its gameplan following Behren Morton’s injury vs. Kansas. Take Cameron Dickey, for example. The star running back managed to get 21 carries and then put up 263 yards and two touchdowns while also being responsible for runs of 71 yards and 55 yards.
And while Morton was hurt (and Will Hammond struggled a bit through the air, he was incredible on the ground, running for 61 yards and two more touchdowns on just eight carries.
On top of that, the Red Raiders were incredibly dominant on defense. Texas Tech managed to get nine sacks in this game, which is good for 92 yards. In total, Texas Tech also had 14 tackles for loss. The fact that TTU’s defense is capable of that is still so refreshing.
Especially when noting how the Jayhawks struggled on offense when facing off against Texas Tech’s defense.
Obviously there’s the scoreboard and the 25-point differential here, but also there’s the fact that the Red Raiders had upwards of 500 total yards is also incredible. It’s clear that Texas Tech was notably better against Kansas this evening and the Red Raiders did everything necessary to show just how good they can be.
