There isn’t another pitching staff in the Big 12 that seems to be coming close to what the Texas Tech Red Raiders are capable of. Just simply speaking, the Red Raiders own a 1.71 ERA. There’s not another team in the Big 12 that truly comes close to that.
It’s the best ERA in the Big 12 and it’s better by more than half a run over the second-place Utah Utes pitching staff, who own a 2.28 ERA. And it’s not that their ERA is bad by any stretch of the imagination, it’s just that Texas Tech has a much better one.
There’s just not many other teams in the Big 12 that have a pitching staff that really can remotely compare (Utah and the UCF Knights are the two that can come closest here) and the gap between the Red Raiders and the rest of the conference just seems to be getting larger and larger.
Texas Tech’s pitching staff is operating on another level as the Red Raiders have the best ERA in the Big 12 by far
Let’s take a look at the way the Red Raiders are better than the rest of the Big 12 here.
- Texas Tech Red Raiders - 1.71 ERA
- Utah Utes - 2.28 ERA
- UCF Knights - 2.65 ERA
- Oklahoma State Cowgirls - 3.19 ERA
- Kansas Jayhawks - 3.42 ERA
- Arizona State Sun Devils - 3.59 ERA
- Baylor Bears - 4.02 ERA
- Arizona Wildcats - 4.44 ERA
- Iowa State Cyclones - 4.65 ERA
- BYU Cougars - 7.01 ERA
- Houston Cougars - 7.30 ERA
The folks in Provo and Houston truly are struggling right now. That is an absolutely massive jump from the Iowa State Cyclones pitching staff to what both the BYU Cougars and the Houston Cougars are delivering this season.
Back to the top for a moment. Right now, it doesn’t look like the Red Raiders will be slowing down at any time soon. And when you combine these sorts of pitching numbers with the power that Texas Tech has at the plate, things are really dangerous for opposing teams.
