The Texas Tech softball team isn’t just great at hitting the ball. The Red Raiders are really, really impressive at their baserunning and ability to thrive at stealing bases. This year’s Texas Tech softball team is one of the best in the nation when it comes to stealing bases.
And there’s a pretty interesting matchup happening this weekend because the second best team in the Big 12 when it comes to stealing bases will be in Lubbock for a three game series with the Red Raiders.
Of course, it’s worth pointing out that Texas Tech has managed to rack up 43 more stolen bases than the second place Baylor Bears. And it’s also worth reminding folks that Texas Tech’s stolen bases complement the Red Raiders’ power hitting (with 113 home runs so far) to create an offense that is absolutely terrifying to face.
Baylor doesn’t have that sort of home run hitting ability. The Bears do get contact and can get on base, but they’re a little more reliant on playing small ball than Texas Tech is.
Texas Tech has 114 stolen bases on 133 attempts to show that the Red Raiders’ speed is just as dangerous as Texas Tech’s power
- Texas Tech Red Raiders - 114 stolen bases on 133 attempts
- Baylor Bears - 71 stolen bases on 92 attempts
- Oklahoma State Cowgirls - 66 stolen bases on 78 attempts
- UCF Knights - 46 stolen bases on 62 attempts
- Arizona State Sun Devils - 45 stolen bases on 59 attempts
- Kansas Jayhawks - 42 stolen bases on 53 attempts
- Iowa State Cyclones - 38 stolen bases on 48 attempts
- Arizona Wildcats - 35 stolen bases on 38 attempts
- Houston Cougars - 30 stolen bases on 39 attempts
- Utah Utes - 24 stolen bases on 32 attempts
- BYU Cougars - 19 stolen bases on 27 attempts
The Bears’ speed on the base paths is a genuine strength for them, but the Red Raiders are stealing more effectively and in greater volume. Baylor is getting just 77.2 percent of their attempts to pan out. Texas Tech is getting 85.7 percent.
