Folks, the Red Raiders are getting hits often and they're getting on base often and they’re racking up an impressive amount of total bases. Through just 24 games, Texas Tech has managed to accumulate 506 total bases, which is notably more than the Cincinnati Bearcats’ 492 total bases on the season at 27 games into the season.
It’s probably a fair time to warn opposing teams to be alert and ready and expect the Red Raiders to get on base in a hurry and on a very regular basis when facing literally anyone this season.
It’s good to remember that when talking about total bases, we’re talking about a pretty good picture of literally everything a lineup does at the plate. And so far, checking the numbers, Texas Tech is by far the best team in the conference at that.
Texas Tech holds a pretty dominant total bases lead on the Big 12 this season with Cincinnati as the No. 2 team
Texas Tech is the best (and the Bearcats are second), but what does the rest of the Big 12 look like?
- Texas Tech Red Raiders - 506
- Cincinnati Bearcats - 492
- Arizona State Sun Devils - 470
- Kansas State Wildcats - 453
- Oklahoma state Cowboys - 420
- BYU Cougars - 411
- Kansas Jayhawks - 387
- Houston Cougars - 371
- West Virginia Mountaineers - 350
- Arizona Wildcats - 349
- UCF Knights - 315
- Baylor Bears - 314
- Utah Utes - 306
- TCU Horned Frogs - 285
Just a quick refresher for when examining total bases: a single counts as one total base while a double counts as two, a triple counts as three, and then a home run counts as four.
This isn’t something that helps generate a ton of discussion generally, but it helps showcase the volume of offense that a team can have at any given moment. And with Texas Tech, it should be pretty clear that this offense can have a lot of volume in a hurry.
