After playing a key role in leading the Texas Tech Red Raiders through one of the most thrilling and enjoyable football seasons in program history, TTU quarterback Behren Morton now has a shot to improve his draft stock and get some more reps.

Morton, who was instrumental in elevating the Red Raiders offense all throughout Texas Tech’s 12-win season that featured a Big 12 championship and a College Football Playoff appearance despite playing through much of the season while injured, caught a bit of flak for the way he performed in the College Football Playoff against the Oregon Ducks.

But now he’s looking to compete in the East-West Shrine Bowl with the opportunity to prove that he deserves a shot somewhere in the NFL.

And this is a great opportunity for Morton to help showcase his skills. While that game against Oregon was dreadful (Morton completed 18 of 32 passes for just 137 yards and zero touchdowns while also throwing two interceptions), much of Morton’s career has been pretty solid and productive.

Throughout his career, Morton managed to complete 793 of the 1263 passes he attempted for 8986 yards and 71 touchdowns against just 28 interceptions. This season, in 13 games that included while playing injured, Texas Tech’s starting quarterback completed 66 percent of his passes for 2780 yards and 22 touchdowns while also throwing six interceptions.

That’s not bad at all.

So, for Red Raider fans who live in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area (or for Texas Tech football fans who are just willing to travel a little bit and are interested in watching this year’s edition of the Shrine Bowl and supporting Shriner’s Hospitals), a familiar face will be playing on offense.
