This weekend, Joey McGuire, Shiel Wood, and the rest of the Texas Tech Red Raiders will be heading down to Houston to meet up with Willie Fritz and the Houston Cougars. As Texas Tech heads southeast for the matchup with the undefeated Cougars, the Red Raiders will be taking one of the best defensive backs in the Big 12 with them.
Brice Pollock has been an absolute star for the Red Raiders secondary. The former Mississippi State Bulldog has stepped into the locker room and already elevated everything that Texas Tech wants to do on defense.
So far, he’s already picked off three passes in four games (which is three times what he had in his career prior to the 2025 college football season).
Texas Tech cornerback Brice Pollock tied to lead the Big 12 in interceptions as the Red Raiders prepare to face Houston
Here are the Big 12’s interception leaders as we enter Week 6 of the 2025 college football season:
- Brice Pollock, Texas Tech Red Raiders - 3 interceptions
- Jackson Bennee, Utah Utes - 3 interceptions
- Darrian Lewis, West Virginia Mountaineers - 2 interceptions
- Evan Johnson, BYU Cougars - 2 interceptions
- Jamel Johnson, TCU Horned Frogs - 2 interceptions
- Jamison Patton, Iowa State Cyclones - 2 interceptions
- Qua Moss, Kansas State Wildcats - 2 interceptions
It’s just so much fun seeing Texas Tech thrive on defense. It’s just not something that has really happened for much of my life and it’s encouraging to see the Red Raiders be among the best in the Big 12 (and also probably the country) on that side of the ball.
The potential for the Red Raiders to elevate themselves as a program comes from the fact that Texas Tech now has a dominant defense to go alongside with that seemingly always impressive and productive offense.
It’ll be fun to see Pollock and the Red Raiders continue to succeed on that side of the ball and to see just how far this Texas Tech team can go this season.
