One of my favorite parts of this particular Texas Tech football season is seeing how the offense for the Red Raiders has been just so dynamic and interesting. And while it is worth acknowledging that Texas Tech’s offense hasn’t been perfect (especially in recent weeks), it’s been incredibly productive for so much of this season, especially in the running game.
Texas Tech actually has one of the Big 12’s best rushing attacks so far this season (which is something that I think many of us just flat out didn’t expect to see in Lubbock) and a huge reason for that rushing success is the way that Cameron Dickey has been playing this year.
As we enter week 10, Dickey is actually the Big 12’s current best when it comes to rushing yards in conference games. That’s right, right now, Dickey has more rushing yards when facing Big 12 opponents than literally anyone else in the conference.
The Texas Tech Red Raiders currently have the Big 12’s leader in rushing yards in conference games entering Week 10
Through five Big 12 games, Dickey has managed to get 76 carries that he’s turned into 513 rushing yards and five scores. Against Big 12 defenses, Dickey is managing to average 6.8 yards per carry and 102.6 rushing yards per game.
Dickey has been a monumental sort of contributor for the Red Raiders as Mack Leftwich has installed his version of the veer-and-shoot offense in Lubbock. He’s just a sophomore and he’s had such a fantastic impact on this offense. Throughout the season, Dickey has managed to get 113 carries for 678 rushing yards and nine touchdowns while also catching 13 passes for 133 yards and another score.
It’ll be interesting to see how things shape up down the stretch for Dickey and Texas Tech. With two quarterbacks injured (one of which is out for the season), Dickey might be getting an even more concentrated focus from this offense.
