Well, the Miami Dolphins managed to land one of the most versatile and complete defenders that college football had to offer in this year’s edition of the NFL Draft class as Texas Tech Red Raiders legend Jacob Rodriguez is headed to south Florida.
In the second round of the NFL Draft, Rodriguez heard his name called with the No. 43 overall pick as the Dolphins decided to add him to their linebacker corps. Rodriguez was one of the most fascinating players in all of college football this season as the seasoned linebacker was one of the centerpieces for a Texas Tech defense that drastically improved en route to a Big 12 championship in 2025.
The senior linebacker saw his name all over college football awards and recognitions and he will now have a chance to play at the next level.

Oh, and it’s worth noting that he also had six pass breakups and a sack. Rodriguez found himself all over the field for the Red Raiders’ defense and Texas Tech was better because of it.
Along with that, given his athleticism and versatility and the fact that Texas Tech wanted to highlight Rodriguez in as many ways as possible, the Red Raiders offense used him in a handful of goalline packages and allowed him to run four a couple of touchdowns late in the season.
Rodriguez really thrived this season and it was the culmination of a fascinating journey. He originally got his college football career started as a quarterback at Virginia and has developed since transferring back in 2022. Now he’s off to the NFL.
