Mack Leftwich’s version of the veer-and-shoot offense is a ton of fun to watch. Most veer-and-shoot offenses are. But this one in particular, with the amount of talent that the Red Raiders have all across the field, is really, really fun to watch.
Texas Tech is stretching opposing defenses with ease Red Raiders quarterback Behren Morton seems to be having fun operating the system.
So far, after four games (and five weeks) of the season already being done and over with, Morton is leading the Big 12 in passing yards per attempt with 10.7 (which is a lot of yards per attempt). The Red Raiders are doing a great job of putting opposing defenses on their heels and connecting with wide receivers on a regular basis.
Texas Tech quarterback Behren Morton is currently the Big 12’s best at passing yards per attempt after Week 5
Here are the top passers in the Big 12 in passing yards per attempt, with Behren Morton at the top of the list, of course:
- Behren Morton, Texas Tech Red Raiders - 10.7 yards per attempt
- Jalon Daniels, Kansas Jayhawks - 9.9 yards per attempt
- Brendan Sorbsy, Cincinnati Bearcats - 9.7 yards per attempt
- Josh Hoover, TCU Horned Frogs - 9.2 yards per attempt
- Rocco Becht, Iowa State Cyclones - 9.2 yards per attempt
- Sawyer Robertson, Baylor Bears - 8.2 yards per attempt
- Tayven Jackson, UCF Knights - 8 yards per attempt
- Conner Weigman, Houston Cougars - 7.9 yards per attempt
- Kaidon Salter, Colorado Buffaloes - 7.8 yards per attempt
- Bear Bachmeier, BYU Cougars - 7.7 yards per attempt
It’s fascinating to see Morton at the top of this list and how there’s a rather large gap between him and No. 2 on it. Jalon Daniels is averaging nearly a yard per attempt less than what Morton is. And it’s also interesting to see how Texas Tech’s starting quarterback is averaging three yards more per attempt than what BYU is getting out of Bachmeier right now.
