With a new offensive coordinator in Mack Leftwich and a few new pieces on the offensive side of things, the Texas Tech Red Raiders are boasting one of the most impressive offenses in the country. And that shouldn’t be much of a shock to anyone who has kept up with college football over the past few years. Offense is something that Texas Tech definitely does well.

But right now, after just three games, we’re talking about a Texas Tech offense that is clearly one of the best in the country. Especially when it comes to scoring offense.

The Red Raiders are, right now, boasting the best scoring offense around. Not just in the Big 12, but on a national scale.

That’s impressive given how many impressive offenses can be found all over the place. At the moment, Texas Tech is one of just five teams averaging at least 54 points per game (joining the USC Trojans, Florida State Seminoles, Oregon Ducks, and Washington Huskies).

And Texas Tech is sitting at the top of that group with 58 points per game.

How will Texas Tech’s offense look after the No. 17 Red Raiders tangle with the No. 16 Utah Utes in Salt Lake City?

If the Red Raiders are able to continue having one of the best scoring offenses in the country, and they can pair it with a defense that looks even remotely competent, we’re talking about this season looking truly special.

And so far, that seems to be the case for both sides of the ball for Tech. The Red Raiders are allowing just 11.7 points per game (which ranks at No. 6 in the Big 12, but is a generally solid number to have). Shiel Wood has done an impressive job with a group that hasn’t thrived for much of the past few seasons.

And when you pair that with the top scoring offense in the country? Well, that should equal quite a few wins.

But, it’s worth noting that the Red Raiders are about to meet up with one of the toughest defenses in the country this weekend and we’re going to see just how good Texas Tech’s scoring offense looks on the road against a team like the Utah Utes.

Utah is allowing just 8.3 points per game and the Utes have given up just two touchdowns through their first three games of the season. A not insignificant amount of the points scored on Utah so far this year have come thanks to four field goals that have been kicked against the Utes.

So, what happens when the best scoring offense in the country meets up with the No. 2 scoring offense in the Big 12? We’ll find out soon enough.
