As we get set to see the Texas Tech Red Raiders softball team face off against the Baylor Bears, we’re going to see one of the most impressive pitching staffs in the country meet up and take on a team that really struggles to consistently get hits.
Up to this point in the season, Texas Tech’s pitching staff has allowed just 177 hits. It’s pretty clear that the Red Raiders are suffocating opposing lineups on a regular basis. And no other pitching staff in the Big 12 is really coming close to that sort of success in the circle. The UCF Knights are the second best team in the conference and they’ve allowed 267 hits this season.
Here’s what the full leaderboard looks like for the Big 12 going to the final weekend series.
Across 52 games, Texas Tech softball’s pitching staff has given up just 177 hits. That’s the best in the Big 12
- Texas Tech Red Raiders - 177 hits in 52 games
- UCF Knights - 267 hits in 51 games
- Oklahoma State Cowgirls - 311 hits in 47 games
- Kansas Jayhawks - 321 hits in 49 games
- Utah Utes - 325 hits in 52 games
- Arizona State Sun Devils - 337 hits in 51 games
- Arizona Wildcats - 341 hits in 47 games
- Baylor Bears - 365 hits in 51 games
- BYU Cougars - 396 hits in 47 games
- Iowa State Cyclones - 411 hits in 51 games
- Houston Cougars - 463 hits in 51 games
Opposing lineups really are having issues getting hits consistently against the Red Raiders pitching staff up to this point in the season. Texas Tech has managed to shut folks down on a regular basis. And Baylor isn’t having that sort of success.
While the Red Raiders are holding opposing teams to just 3.4 hits per game, Baylor’s pitching staff is allowing roughly 7.3 hits per game. That’s a notable gap between both of these teams and it might be something that shows how this series will play out.
