I, for one, appreciate seeing Texas Tech being capable of overcoming massive deficits when playing outside of Lubbock. I, for one, generally think that it’s a good thing that the Red Raiders are able to go out and beat the No. 3 team in the country after trailing by 10 points at halftime and then by 17 points in the second half.
I also tend to think it’s great that the Red Raiders proved that they can beat a ranked team this season! We have definitive proof of that right now. Which is good! And it wasn’t just any ranked opponent. But, it must be said that Saturday’s win over the No. 3 Duke Blue Devils was the first time the Red Raiders have managed to get a win against a ranked foe this season.
Which is certainly something to celebrate.
Here’s what the Big 12 standings and records look like with Texas Tech getting a much needed neutral site victory against one of the most impressive teams in the country (up to this still very early point in the season).
Big 12 standings, records: Texas Tech’s neutral site win over the Duke Blue Devils was huge for the Red Raiders
- Iowa State Cyclones - 12-0 overall
- Arizona Wildcats - 11-0 overall
- BYU Cougars - 11-1 overall
- Houston Cougars - 11-1 overall
- Oklahoma State Cowboys - 11-1 overall
- UCF Knights - 10-1 overall
- Colorado Buffaloes - 10-2 overall
- Baylor Bears - 9-2 overall
- Kansas Jayhawks - 9-3 overall
- TCU Horned Frogs - 9-3 overall
- Texas Tech Red Raiders - 9-3 overall
- Arizona State Sun Devils - 9-4 overall
- Kansas State Wildcats - 8-4 overall
- Utah Utes - 8-4 overall
- West Virginia Mountaineers - 8-4 overall
- Cincinnati Bearcats - 7-5 overall
With the win over Duke, Texas Tech is now 3-2 in neutral site matchups (which certainly feels so much better than being 2-2 or 2-3 in those sorts of games) while getting one step closer to securing double digit wins (something they’re bound to do later this week).
The Big 12 looks like it might be a bit loaded this season (which shouldn’t shock anyone), but the Red Raiders getting a win against Duke makes it clear that they can legitimately take on anyone in any venue. And that’s exciting to see.
