Things have been rough for the Texas Tech baseball team this season. The Red Raiders seemed to have plenty of potential, especially at the plate, but things have fallen apart. Even though the Red Raiders have a .351 batting average, a .445 OBP, and a .536 slugging percentage, Texas Tech is sitting at 22-22 overall and 6-15 in Big 12 play.
The Red Raiders are sitting at No.13 in the Big 12 standings which means they’re currently on the outside looking in of the upcoming Big 12 baseball tournament.
The reason for that? Texas Tech's pitching staff has managed to accumulate a disastrous team ERA of 7.71. The Red Raiders pitchers have allowed 78 home runs (which is nearly 30 more than what Texas Tech’s batters have hit this season).
The Texas Tech baseball team’s stats have shown exactly why the Red Raiders are struggling entering the Baylor series
So, as the Red Raiders need to desperately find a way to keep up with the Baylor Bears and steal a series win in Waco to be able to keep hopes alive for a shot at the Big 12 tournament, Texas Tech is about to take on a pitching staff that has a 5.53 ERA as a team.
That’s more than two full runs better than what the Red Raiders are putting together while on the mound.
But Baylor’s batting average kind of pales in comparison to Texas Tech’s. The Bears have a .262 batting average entering this weekend while Texas Tech’s is at .351 right now. The Bears have managed to strike out 439 times while Texas Tech has just 294 strikeouts so far this season.
So, how will this play out? Will Texas Tech’s pitching struggles catch up to them once again? Will the Bears be able to slow the Red Raiders enough to outscore them?
