Well. I’m not really sure things could have gone much worse for Krista Gerlich and the Texas Tech Lady Raiders. Just truly, things were lopsided in the worst sorts of ways. LSU won 101 to 47. Which is bad. All sorts of awful, if you ask me.
But there’s a few things that must be remembered when talking about that sort of mess.
First is that Texas Tech just managed to get to 26 wins for the first time in a couple decades. I mean, this season was still something special. The second thing to keep in mind here is that Texas Tech was given just a 3.5 percent chance to beat the LSU Tigers in this game in ESPN’s Matchup Predictor prior to the game.
So yeah, this game played out kind of how the math munching, number crunching computers expected.
Texas Tech’s historic 2026 season comes to a halt as the LSU Tigers crush the Lady Raiders
If you decided to watch just the first quarter of this game and then had to step away for one reason or another, then you probably thought that Texas Tech had something of a chance to make this interesting. Unfortunately, that’s not how it played out at all.
Texas Tech may have competed early on (after one quarter, the score sat at 19-14 in LSU’s favor with a manageable deficit for Texas Tech), but things got out of control in a hurry. The Tigers outscored Tech by 13 points in the second quarter and then by 26 points in the third quarter.
In so many ways, LSU really punished the Lady Raiders. Texas Tech made just 25.4 percent of its shots from the field, grabbed a grand total of 27 rebounds, and had 19 turnovers. LSU, meanwhile, made 56.5 percent of its shots, had 44 rebounds, and turned the ball over just 10 times.
This loss is going to sting for a bit, but it was the perfect sort of loss to illustrate just how far Texas Tech has to go as a program. There’s a lot of work to be done, despite all of the success that the Lady Raiders have had this season.
