After shutting out the Baylor Bears on Thursday night, Gerry Glasco’s Texas Tech softball team is one step closer to getting its 50th win of the regular season overall. The Red Raiders have already gone and won their 20th Big 12 game of the season thanks to the win.

This has been such a stellar season for the Red Raiders and Texas Tech has an opportunity to just keep its foot on the gas. The Red Raiders are 49-4 overall and 20-2 in Big 12 play with the 5-0 shutout win over Baylor.

The win was Texas Tech’s 17th shutout victory on the year and it gave Kaitlyn Terry her 21st win so far this season. It’s fascinating because that win also put Terry’s win total past that of both the Houston Cougars and the BYU Cougars.

Big 12 standings update: Texas Tech secures easy win over Baylor Bears in Thursday night Game 1 matchup

Here’s what the latest Big 12 softball standings look like with the Red Raiders getting an easy win over the Bears in Game 1:

  • Texas Tech Red Raiders (49-4 overall, 20-2 Big 12)
  • Arizona Wildcats (34-13 overall, 15-6 Big 12)
  • Oklahoma State Cowgirls (34-14 overall, 14-7 Big 12)
  • Kansas Jayhawks (33-16 overall, 13-8 big 12)
  • UCF Knights (36-14-1 overall, 12-8-1 Big 12)
  • Utah Utes (33-18-1 overall, 8-12-1 Big 12)
  • Baylor Bears (27-24 overall, 9-13 Big 12)
  • Arizona State Sun Devils (35-16 overall, 8-13 Big 12)
  • Iowa State Cyclones (30-21 overall, 8-13 Big 12)
  • BYU Cougars (18-30 overall, 7-14 Big 12)
  • Houston Cougars (20-31 overall, 3-21 Big 12)

This win doesn’t do all that much for the Red Raiders at this point. That said, it does prevent Texas Tech’s resume from taking a hit and it does get the Red Raiders just a smidge closer to having 50 wins on the season.

Baylor needed this one though. And the Bears need the next two. Really, if the Bears are going to see their season extended in any meaningful way, they just need wins. And those wins are looking more and more unlikely as we go.
