Last weekend, on the road against the Arizona State Sun Devils, the Texas Tech Red Raiders found themselves unable to get a win. It’s worth noting that Arizona State is a deeply flawed team (and one that I’m convinced is the most stressful team in America), but the Red Raiders simply couldn’t generate any sort of offense and ended up losing on the road.

This weekend, Texas Tech returned home.

And while the Red Raiders still had some issues on offense (those absolutely have to be addressed sooner rather than later, they cannot continue if Texas Tech is going to have the sort of season it wants to have), Texas Tech managed to absolutely dismantle the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

This was an incredibly lopsided win for the Red Raiders as Texas Tech went out and beat Oklahoma State 42-0. And the stats help back that up.

Texas Tech handles business at home against Oklahoma State, beating the Cowboys 42-0

The Red Raiders had some issues on offense, but it’s still clear that they controlled this game as they outgained the Cowboys 370 total yards to 182 total yards. Texas Tech’s passing game wasn’t what it should have been today, but the Red Raiders threw for 282 yards while Oklahoma State had just 87 yards.

And then there’s the defensive side of things, where Texas Tech managed to force a couple fumbles (including one that Jacob Rodriguez scooped up and took for 69 yards to the end zone). The Red Raiders kept Oklahoma State out of the red zone (and the end zone) and also managed to hold the Cowboys to 5-of-17 on third down attempts.

The first down advantage of 21 to nine also helps tell the story of just how much better Texas Tech was in this game (and the Red Raiders still likely underperformed on offense here).

This is a good win to get. Texas Tech needed it. The Red Raiders didn’t look great, but they were good enough to go out and get a 42-point shutout win. And that works.
