For the first time ever, the Texas Tech Red Raiders have grabbed themselves a top 5 ranking in the College Football Playoff Top 25.

With the release of the latest College Football Playoff rankings, Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders are moving up a little bit. Texas Tech, at 10-1 overall and 7-1 in Big 12 play, is now the No. 5 team in the Week 13 edition of the College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings, up from the No. 6 spot from a week ago.

And while the Red Raiders are certainly deserving of their ranking, it’s worth noting that much of why Texas Tech jumped up a spot is because of the way the Oklahoma Sooners handed previously No. 4 Alabama a loss in Tuscaloosa.

Getting Alabama a second loss allowed a 1-loss Texas Tech team to move on up in the world. I don’t think Texas Tech fans are going to be all that upset over that fact.

The Red Raiders are in a really solid spot right now and we absolutely have to talk about how they’ve secured multiple top 25 wins up to this point in the season. Texas Tech has managed to beat current No. 12 Utah by 24 points, current No. 23 Houston by 24 points, and current No. 11 BYU by 22 points.

The lone loss for the Red Raiders came on the road while playing with a backup quarterback by a total of four points against No. 25 Arizona State. The resume is pretty good for Texas Tech right now.
