Folks, in addition to the fact that the Texas Tech Red Raiders will be heading to Arlington next Saturday to compete in the Big 12 championship game, we’re also going to get a rematch between the two consistently most impressive Big 12 teams from this season in that matchup.

That’s not a shot at the Utah Utes, they were really solid all throughout the season, but they just simply suffered a couple of losses to the two most impressive teams in this conference this year. And that would be the BYU Cougars and the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

I am absolutely thrilled to see Texas Tech and BYU face off once again. Absolutely thrilled.

Texas Tech and BYU set to meet as Big 12 championship game has become a rematch for the Red Raiders and the Cougars

And I’m sure BYU is as well. There’s no doubt in my mind that the Cougars would like to get this rematch and have a chance at revenge. Because when the Red Raiders got the chance to host the Cougars in Lubbock on November 8, Texas Tech was able to smother BYU’s offense, wear down the Cougars’ defense, and secure a 22-point win in the process.

In that game, Texas Tech held BYU to a grand total of 255 total yards of offense and a meager 7 points. Along with that, the Red Raiders managed to take advantage of three turnovers from BYU while also holding the Cougars to 3-of-14 on third downs and 1-of-3 on fourth downs.

And while Texas Tech wasn’t the most impressive on offense against the Cougars, the Red Raiders’ 368 total yards and 29 points generated by Mack Leftwich’s group was still more than enough to get a win against the then No. 7 team in the country.

The Red Raiders looked like a team that just simply had more depth and more talent and more physicality in that November 8 matchup. So yeah, there’s no doubt in my mind that this particular BYU team that has thrived all throughout the rest of the season would want a chance at a rematch.

It’s going to be fun to see how this one shakes out next Saturday.
